A world premiere written by award winning Broadway director, author, producer Arthur Whitelaw, and award winning directors and producers John and Maria Rodaz. The play with music is based on letters and diary entries from children of the Holocaust.  Perhaps the darkest period in the 20th century, the Holocaust conjures up horrific images; yet somewhere in this nightmarish time, we find that inexplicable hope always exists in the form of small events, as related by the children who were rehearsing for the show to be performed at the camp. Artistic Director Ricky J. Martinez wrote this world premiere set on an island in the Caribbean, this play uses magical realism to explore the poetry of life and death, the responsibilities of friendship, and the determination of willing dreams into realities. Martinez has said of the work, “What would we do to stay embraced by love, to bathe in its truth, to understand its unconditional core, to live in its heaven? For an orphan coming-of-age, haunted by his past, this haven of love dwells in a humble home where he is bound by a lovers’ triangle. Yet, within the walls of paradise, the secret seed of a curse is growing and threatens to be birthed.”

Jonathan Larson (Rent)’s musical, incomplete at the time of his death, follows a semi-autobiographical telling of a struggling young composer in late 20th-century New York. As Jon strives to create a new form of theatre, one which speaks to his generation, he watches his best friend trade creativity for financial stability, and sees his girlfriend dream of a stable family life away from the city.  On the cusp of his thirtieth birthday, Jon must decide what it truly means to be an artist.

David Lindsay Abaire (Rabbit Hole) delivers a wry but biting look at racism and class struggle in the 21st Century.  Set in South Boston, the blue-collar neighborhood where Lindsay-Abaire himself grew up, middle-aged Margie Walsh has been let go from yet another job and is facing eviction along with grown handicapped daughter. She decides to appeal to an old flame who has made good and left his Southie past behind. Is it strength of character or just a few lucky breaks that determines a person’s fate?

David- Lindsay-Abaire’s stirring drama about what happens when a family suffers the tragic loss of a young child?  This warm-hearted, but poignant play deals with such a loss as Howie and Becca mourn over the accidental death of their son, Danny.  Rabbit Hole was the recipient of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Despite the serious subject matter that may be difficult for some, it has many funny moments that make the play entertaining and poignant that will make an impact with the audience. This is a play that will resonate in the South Florida community.

This dark comedy by Stephen Karam (Speech & Debate), a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama,  is a honest take on how we cope with wounds that just won’t heal. If to live is to suffer, then Joseph Douaihy is more alive than most. With unexplained chronic pain and the fate of his reeling family on his shoulders, Joseph’s health, sanity, and insurance premium are on the line. A meditation on the responsibilities we bear for the people we love, for those we don’t and for society as a whole.
