Carbonells Detail ’21-22 Changes

Broad changes to the Carbonell Awards, designed to assuage a theatrical community whose love-hate relationship has exacerbated in recent years, were detailed Monday. Many changes reflect a revised philosophy to reduce the emphasis on head-to-head competition and amplify the existing goal of honoring excellence.

2021 Remy Awards Announced

The 2021 Remy Awards honoring those who provide outstanding service behind the scenes to the region’s theater community were announced this week by the South Florida Theatre League. The livestream of the award presentation  is slated for 7 p.m.  Monday September 27 with the video being available on demand afterwards.

Carbonells To Unveil New System, Judges, Other Changes

Major changes for the Carbonell Awards honoring excellence in South Florida theater will be unveiled Monday at a town hall meeting live and online will reveal a new team of judges, a new judging process and criteria, new awards, new members of the board of directors, and a new coordinator – much of which feature increased diversity throughout the program.

Broward & Arsht Centers to Require Proof of Negative COVID Test or Vaccination

The Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale and the Arsht Center in Miami will require all audience members to provide proof of a negative COVID test or proof of full vaccination to be admitted to events later this fall — the most extensive response to the pandemic by a South Florida theater or venue

Maltz Construction Produces A Surprise In The New Season

The show must go on, and it absolutely will, assures Maltz Jupiter Theatre chief Andrew Kato. But the first show of the season won’t be inside the theater under construction. The locally-produced season opener of Jersey Boys will be held in the Roger Dean Chevrolet baseball stadium in Jupiter.

GableStage Reopens Eclectic Season With Adler’s The Price

Echoing the resurrection of local theater, the new artistic director Bari Newport will inaugurate GableStage’s 2021-2022 season in November directing the late Joseph Adler’s detailed plan for The Price — the first title in an eclectic season featuring a musical and world premieres.
