Caldwell’s stripped-down Sondheim to continue with “Follies”

An unvarnished theatrical success of the past two years has been Caldwell Theatre’s stripped down concert versions of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George and Into the Woods.

Caldwell chief Clive Cholerton has teed up the next in the series: Sondheim’s bittersweet mediation on love, loss and choices not taken, Follies, about a reunion of aging almuni of a Ziegfeld-like series of revues. It features some of Sondheim’s lushest music and bitterly insightful lyrics including the cabaret standards Losing My Mind and I’m Still Here.

The show will have a handful of rehearsals at the end of September and be performed Oct. 1-3.

The four leads have been cast: Melissa Minyard as Sally, Laura Hodos as Phyllis, Wayne LeGette as Buddy, and Stephen Anthony as Ben.
