New Briefs: 24 Hour Theatre Project Names Participants; Martinez Directing In Virginia

The All Night Strut

The preliminary lineup of masochists has been announced for The Naked Stage’s 24-Hour Theatre Project 2012, currently slated for 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, hosted at GableStage.

The sixth annual fundraiser for the tiny company is always a joyously anarchic celebration of DIY theater in which dozens of local actors, directors and playwrights create eight short plays from scratch and perform them within 24 hours.

The volunteers slated this year include:

Actors:
Alex Alvarez, Jim Ballard, Nan Barnett, Tracey Barrow-Schoenblatt, Sally Bondi, Amy Miller Brennan, Anne Chamberlain, Marckenson Charles, Oscar Cheda, Matthew William Chizever, Clive Cholerton, Ken Clement, Andrew Conte, Dave Corey, Lela Elam, Patti Gardner, Laura Hodos, Christopher Kent, Julie Kleiner, Mcley Lafrance, Dan Leonard, Margery Lowe, John Manzelli, Hunter McConnell, Amy McKenna, Deborah Sherman, Adam Simpson, Barbara Sloan, Karen Stephens and Shane Tanner.

Directors:
Todd Allen Durkin, Avi Hoffman, Dan Kelley, Michael Leeds, Amy London, Hugh Murphy and Andy Rogow.

Playwrights:
Andie Arthur, Marj O’Neil Butler, Christopher Demos-Brown, Christopher De Paola, Tony Finstrom, Michael McKeever, Stuart Meltzer and Juan C. Sanchez

Details about tickets are expected to be released soon.

 The Carousel Waltz

In a nice little bit of serendipity, New Theatre Artistic Director Ricky J. Martinez is directing a revival of Nilo Cruz’s Anna in the Tropics at James Madison University and The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

The play slated to be performed on the campus Oct. 30-Nov. 2 had its world premiere at New Theatre in 2002 before winning the Pulitzer Prize. Martinez is serving as a Guest Director in Residence, teaching special classes while working on the play.
