News Briefs: City Theatre Reads Possible Summer Shorts Tonight, Lake Worth Needs A Floor, Pussycat To Purr Extra Weeks

Help evaluate six early contenders of short plays for next season’s 20th anniversary Summer Shorts Festival by enjoying a free evening of stage readings (wine and cheese) at 7 p.m. tonight this Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Empire Stage, 1140 N. Flagler in Fort Lauderdale. Artistic Director John Manzelli and the actors will solicit your feedback.

Pharrell Williams Not Included

The venerable Lake Worth Playhouse in its 62nd season, one of oldest community theaters in the state, is raising money in its Operation Happy Feet campaign to buy a new floor for its rehearsal hall. Every dollar will be matched by an anonymous donor, but the project still needs about $1,700 yet. Practicing Your Extensions

Sometimes a show is an unexpected hit. Broward Stage Door in Coral Springs has added three weeks to its run of What’s New Pussycat? until October 19. The revue of 1960s pop music has been so successful that the show also is being moved Sept. 24 from its smaller venue to its larger adjacent auditorium.
