Slow Burn Theatre lights early fuse for next season

Even before the current season is half over, Slow Burn Theatre Company has announced its schedule for the 2011-2012 slate.

Slow Burn, whose logo is a fuse burning down to sticks of dynamite, is a fledgling professional troupe in Boca Raton which specializes in musicals other groups rarely touch.

The first show at unspecified dates in October will be a reprise of this season’s opener, The Rocky Horror Show; in January. Urinetown the Musical, which was done in 2007 by Actors Playhouse will be presented, followed by Stephen Sondheim’s twisted fairy tale, Into the Woods, in April..

And in the category of shows no one does– and there may be a good reason — Slow Burn will do a summer show, the ultra-campy 2007 musical Xanadu from June 14-23. It’s a tongue in cheek sendup of the even campier 1980 movie.

The company performs at West Boca Performing Arts Theatre inside the Community High School at 12811 West Glades Rd.

Following Kander and Ebb’s The Kiss of the Spider Woman, Slow Burn’s current season ‘continues with Blood Brothers from April 22 to May 1.
