Miami-Dade’s County Commission proposed county budget cuts $2.3 million of support for the grants programs of the Department of Cultural Affairs. If enacted, this would reduce grants by about 25% to more than 400 cultural organizations.

Combined with last year’s cut, this would be a combined reduction of about 40% to each grant or a loss of $3.7 million in cultural grants funds, according to Adolfo Henriques, chair of the Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Council.

Henriques has sent an email asking cultural and community leaders to write and telephone every county commissioner as well as the mayor and county manager.

He also is urging the public to testify at the budget hearing at 5 p.m. Sept. 23 in the County Commission Chamber, 111 N.W. 1st Street.
