Laggy And Gardner Are Beguiling In Sylvia, But BRTG’s Comedy Turns Sluggish

Boca Raton Theatre Guild’s production of A.R. Gurney’s comedy has some virtues starting with a delightful performance from Jacqueline Laggy and an admirably solid one from Patti Gardner. But the laughs peter out because of less stellar performances from the two male actors who dampen what should be an effervescent comedy.

Who’s Playing Who This Season?

Regular South Florida theatergoers will recognize many local stalwarts headlining productions this fall as well as some folks new to these parts – and their parts. Palm Beach Dramaworks revealed much of its casting for the entire season this week, featuring the boldface name of Tony Award nominee and part-time local resident Maureen Anderman in December.

The Boca Raton Theatre Guild has announced its ’s 2012-2013 season: the A.R Gurney thinking man’s comedy Sylvia from Sept. 28-Oct. 14 and Kander & Ebb’s acerbic musical Chicago in March 1-17.

Allergist’s Wife is No Sneeze at Boca Raton Theatre Guild

The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife at Boca Raton Theatre Guild might drag a little at first, but the show soars when Patti Gardner, Michael Beecher, Barbara Sloan and Iris Acker are on stage together. Their interplay is worth the price of admission and make this production one to see.
