Newcomers Share Carbonell Bounty With Major Companies

The Timekeepers, a harrowing drama mounted on a tiny stage by a company only in its second season, swept six of its six nominations including best play at the 38th Carbonell Awards Monday night. Those wins, along with a best director award for the fledgling Slow Burn Theatre Company’s musical next to normal, was greeted as a sign that young theaters could make inroads in a program dominated by a handful of venerable and well-funded troupes.

Christopher Demos-Brown Is Finalist For Steinberg/Theatre Critics’ Playwriting Award

Christopher Demos-Brown is among six finalists for one of the most esteemed playwriting honors in the country, the Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award.
The selection was based on the script for his play Fear Up Harsh that premiered in November at Zoetic Stage.

Shorts Gone Wild Isn’t Particularly Wild, But It Is Consistently Funny

Shorts Gone Wild is pretty tame stuff for South Florida, but this outing of light comedies with a live-and-let-live LGBT message is more consistently entertaining than some of City Theatre’s earlier forays into an alternative adults-only version of its venerable Summer Shorts program.
