Covid-Related Delays on Theater Expansion Cancel Maltz Show

Described as two hurricanes striking at the same time, Covid has dealt the Maltz Jupiter Theatre serious blows including cancelling one big-budget musical Sweet Charity because the opening of its remodeled theater has been delayed. Virus-related shortages in crippling material supply and aggravating work force shortfalls come a few weeks after season opener Jersey Boys was also cancelled.

Dickens Nailed It: South Florida Theater Two Years In Review

If Dickens’ opening line in A Tale of Two Cities has become a trite cliché through overuse it has become a painfully accurate truism about theater over the past two years, especially South Florida theater. Crippling loss and inspiring resurrection. Surrender and perseverance. And , now, the Covid threat has reasserted. But looking back on those two years delivers a testament worth celebrating and learning from.

Palm Beach Arts To Lose Estimated $48 Million This Year

Palm Beach County may be famous for the number and generosity of arts donors, but recent losses paint a deeply unsettling portrait. Survey responses from 33 non-profit arts groups produced an estimated total $48 million in revenue already lost and expected to be lost by the end of the calendar year due to the pandemic.

Maltz Postpones Season A Full Year To Jumpstart Construction

Taking advantage of the uncertain months ahead for full productions, the Maltz Jupiter Theater is delaying its entire next season a full year so that it can speed up its long-planned $30-plus million expansion project, breaking ground in three weeks rather than April 2021.
