Measure For Measure Theatre will deliver the entire two-part Angels In America epic in a free online reading over the next two weeks in one of the most unusual arrangements the region has yet seen.
The live-only reading on Facebook separates Tony Kushner’s legendary work about the AIDS crisis into one-hour segments, each segment cybercast by itself spread over six days beginning this Friday.
Millennium Approaches will be presented in those one-hour chunks on this Friday April 17 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., then the second chunk on Saturday from 8 to 9 p.m. and concluding Sunday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Perestroika will follow the same schedule next week.
The cast includes Sabrina Lynn Gore as Harper; Ernesto Gonzalez as Joe; Eric O’Keefe as Prior; Spencer Landis as Louis; Johnbarry Green as Roy Cohn and Prior 2; Missy McArdle as Hannah and Ethel Rosenberg; Carlos Alayeto as the Rabbi, Prior 1,and others; Mallory Newbrough as Nurse Emily, Angel and others; and Ricky Morisseau as Beliza and Mr. Lies. The production will be stage managed and the stage directions will be read by Genesis Perez.
While the event is free on the company’s Facebook Live page, donations to be split among the cast and company can be made thru Venmo and PayPal at addresses that will be revealed during the cybercast.
Founded in June 2017 by Artistic Director Daimien J. Matherson and Company Manager Kelly Johnson, Measure for Measure Theatre moved its operation to the Sunrise Civic Center where it produced In the Heights in October. It had planned to open the musical Island Song when the virus closed theaters.
