Patrons of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts accustomed to free parking will have to pay to park in its adjacent garage next month in tandem with an end to the free shuttle which many people used to avoid paying to park in downtown West Palm Beach.
The new cash-less system involves primarily linking with the online cellphone-based app ParkMobile. One goal is to eliminate a handful of occasions when the five-story 1,187-slot facility has been so filled that attendees at Kravis events have been unable to find an open space, said Nick Tigue, vice-president of operations.
The flat fee assessed for each individual visit is expected to be between $5 and $10 varying with the time and date of the arrival plus an as-yet undetermined fee assessed by ParkMobile. A second method will not require a cellphone.
The structure at 701 Okeechobee Boulevard will likely begin the new process around Sept. 19.
Here’s a detailed look at the process:
Some people will already have downloaded the ParkMobile app on their phone or they can download it when they come to the garage.
Upon arriving, enter your vehicle’s license plate and payment method using one of the following options:
– Scan the QR code (zone number) on the ParkMobile listed on signs in the garage.
– Text “Park” to 77223
Alternatively
–Utilize the ParkMobile kiosk located near the 3rd floor parking garage elevators, using a credit card..
Some asterisks:
—You cannot reserve or pay for the slot in advance
— The fee is separate from any ticket price for the event.
Valet parking service is also available at most Dreyfoos Hall events for a flat fee of $25 per car, located at the S. Sapodilla Avenue entrance.
Other parking locations include:
—extremely limited Premium Space Paid Parking in front of the Box Office windows area on performance days (using ParkMobile)
–Paid city parking on Alexander W. Dreyfoos Way and on S. Sapodilla Avenue.
The garage has undergone updates recently including eight electric charging stations, slot restriping and signage, plus employees on bright yellow shirts, will be on every floor during events on every floor to upgrade security, to move traffic more smoothly and to help motorists with the new payment system.
The pay plan is similar to the one currently being used at the Broward Center.
