A Bouquet of Irises (Acker)

It’s been a while since we’ve seen local theater icon Iris Acker on stage except on On Stage With Iris Acker on her BECON TV theater interview program. So it’s an occasion worth remarking that the veteran actress will be back on stage live in two venues in the coming weeks.

Acker is one of the usual suspects on Monday in a staged reading of Tony Finstrom’s play-in-progress, the crime mystery Murder on Gin Lane.  The play, complete with sound effects, is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Lynn University’s Wold Performing Arts Center, 3601 N. Military Trail, Boca Raton.  The cast includes Jeffrey Bruce, Beth Holland and South Florida’s other legendary diva Jan McArt. The show is the first in Jan McArt’s 2011-2012 play reading series at the college.

Tickets are $10; call (561) 237-9000 or visit lynn.edu/tickets.

It will be performed again Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Byron Carlyle Theatre in Miami Beach as part of the Sleepless Night Miami Beach Festival.

Acker’s appearance is being threaded through rehearsals for a role in The Tale of The Allergists’ Wife which opens Nov. 5 for the Boca Raton Theatre Guild which has recently turned professional. For more information, call (561) 948-2601 or visit www.brtg.org
