WWII’s Music & Words Performing at Soundscape Park

The challenge and courage of World War II – delivered through music and imagery of the era – provide the center of a one-night special event in Miami Beach on Saturday – The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE Day.

Miami’s specific role in the journey will be highlighted as the location where more than half a million servicemen trained and where luxury hotels were transformed into military barracks.

Broadway vocalists and New York City’s Orchestra of St. Lukes underscore a journey through the war’s closing months in Europe narrated by historian John Monsky inside the New World Center, 500 17th Street, by invitation only. But it will also be projected for free live on the 7,000 square-foot wall at the adjacent SoundScape Park, 1670 Washington Ave. Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance and while tickets aren’t required, attendees can RSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-eyes-of-the-world-from-d-day-to-ve-day-wallcast-concert-tickets-1344207022389

Four singers Shereen Ahmed, John Clay III, Hayley Podschun and Nicholas Rodriguez will trace the musical track. But the music will accompany Monsky quoting passages written by Ernest Hemingway and photos by Robert Capa and Vogue model-turned photojournalist Lee Miller, plus thought of journalist Martha Gellhorn, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Pablo Picasso, Marlene Dietrich, and soldiers in the 761 Tank Battalion of African-Americans known as The Black Panthers and 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion,

The production was previously produced at the Kennedy Center and Boston’s Symphony Hall.
