The Dana Plays, a popular fundraiser last year for a critically ill theater activist, is being revived this month by the South Florida Theatre League to support one of her favorite charities, the Humane Society.
A collection of nine short plays by local writers will be read from scripts by volunteer actors at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at The Vanguard: Sanctuary For The Arts venue, 1501 S. Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.
The Dana Plays 2015 are “inspired” by Dana Castellano who died Nov. 1 after a long public battle with cancer – a few weeks after the theater community joined in a similar event to raise money for her medical bills and those of others battling the illness.
Playwrights contributing are Andie Arthur, Christopher Demos-Brown, Jessica Farr, Tony Finstrom, Avi Hoffman, Michael McKeever, David Nail, Matt Stabile, and Paul Tei.
The proceeds will be split between the Broward County and national Human Society headquarters.
People wanting to participate should contact Antonio Amadeo of the Naked Stage at SomedayP@hotmail.com.
Tickets are $15 each (with any extra donation welcome), and are now available at SouthFloridaTheatre.org or https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/949407. The Vanguard is a small venue so reservations are recommended.
