Mae West Play, Dirty Blonde, Doesn’t Quite Seduce At Plaza

The Plaza Theatre’s production of Dirty Blonde, a story of the blessings and curse of celebrity as seen in the life of Mae West, is similarly a conundrum of contradiction – the cast delivers appealing performances, but the play never captures the sex symbol’s blissful bawdiness and nova-like lifeforce that has invigorated other editions.

Margot Moreland and Oscar Cheda’s presence in Boca Raton Theatre Guild’s production of They’re Playing Our Song is, indeed, more than enough reason to see this tuneful but far from iconic 1978 musical by Neil Simon, Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer-Sager.

Actors’ Playhouse Outwits Dimwitted Fox on the Fairway

The Fox on the Fairway, plays more like a 1970s sitcom. When any one of the comedy’s exaggerated characters comes bursting through the door (and this happens more than a few times), you expect a canned laugh track to surface.The Fox on the Fairway won’t take the World Cup when it comes to comedy, but it’s a fun romp and summer fare that only requires the audience to be swept away in its lunacy.
