The Miami Beach Stage Door Theatre at the Byron Carlyle has substituted the Neil Simon play The Prisoner of Second Avenue for the previously slated transfer of Broward Stage Door’s recent large-cast production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

The new show starring Dan Kelley and Stage Door founder Dee Bunn will play Nov. 11-27.

Disappointing advance tickets sales and large weekly running costs for Forum prompted the change for the show slated for next month in the Byron Carlyle Theatre as part of the new initiative from the Coral Springs-based company.

A melding of comedy and drama, Prisoner revolves around the escalating challenges faced by Mel and Edna Edison, a middle-aged couple clinging to the American Dream. Mel has lost his job and begins to unravel, a plight exacerbated by noisy neighbors, excessive summer heat, a robbery and more. Ultimately, it is up to his family to bring Mel back to reality.
