Plaza Theatre Adds New Shows & Holds Birthday Celebration

The fledgling Plaza Theatre began its existence relying on musical revues and cabaret shows, although it has recently added plays like Driving Miss Daisy, Luv and Chapter Two. Now, the company based in a Manalapan shopping center is adding more cabaret shows to its schedule.

A Tribute to Judy Garland starring Melissa Jacobson at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 29 and Feb. 25, featuring a songbook of numbers like “The Trolley Song,” “Get Happy,” “You Made Me Love You” and “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”

The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Friends stars Jodie Langel, who performed in several Webber national tours and recently received a Silver Palm Award for theatre excellence, will perform music from Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Song & Dance. Langel won raves last season for her starring role in Actors Playhouse’s Next to Normal. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11 and 18.

If They Could See Me Now: A Broad’s Way With Broadway!  features Missy McArdle, a seven-time Carbonell Award nominee, with a parade of Broadway belt and comic songs including “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Send in the Clowns,’ “If They Could See Me Now,” “Anything Goes,” “When You’re Good to Mama,” “Don’t Rain On My Parade” and “And The World Goes Round.” Performances are 7:30 p.m. March 4 and 11.

Tickets for each show individually are $30 or $75 for all three shows together.

Additionally, the theatre celebrates its first anniversary with a champagne reception and musical celebration, A Heart Full of Love, at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the theater on 262 S. Ocean Blvd in Manalapan’s Plaza del Mar.

The program created/produced by Alan Jacobson and directed by Andy Rogow will feature performances by Jeanne Bennett, Melissa Jacobson, John Lariviere, Jody Langel, Wayne LeGette, Mia Matthews, Missy McArdle, David Meulemans, and Josie O’Donnell, with Vic Glazer on piano. The Plaza Theatre’s Conservatory  students from Palm Beach County will also perform.
