Alliance Raises Money For Brothers Beckett With Bowling,Pasta and Indiegogo

The Alliance Theatre Lab is about to graduate to another level when its successful Gen-X comedy Brothers Beckett is revived in a co-production with the Arsht Center’s Theater Up Close series March 7-24. But the cost of such a production dwarfs anything the scrappy company has needed before.

Always inventive in its fund-raising efforts – no black tie gala for them – Alliance is turning to such efforts as a comic murder mystery dinner theater evening, a bowl-a-thon and the Internet.

First up on Jan.  27 is Murder, Fugettaboutit!, an interactive murder mystery show, and a family style Italian dinner (with two complimentary draft beers or wine) at 8 p.m. at Dellaventura’s Pizzeria, 4120 S.W. 64th Ave (Davie Road) in Davie. Doors open at 7:45 p.m. The program is sponsored by Bombshell Productions, Dellaventura’s Pizzeria and the Murder Mystery Players. The $50 tickets must be purchased in advance at www.thealliancetheatrelab.com.

The “plot” is described as “Mama Lasagna, the Godmother, and the head of the notorious Lasagna crime family, is celebrating her birthday. Unfortunately, the celebration is cut short when Mama’s archrival, Mickey Mozzarella is found outside murdered in his Maserati. The problem is that Mickey Mozzarella is a made man, and it’s up to Guido Linguini, one of the Mafia’s most feared hit men, to find his killer. Was it Mama’s incompetent son, Vinnie?  Or Vinnie’s cheating wife, Lola?  Or Mama’s faithful bodyguard, Giacomo.  Or maybe it was Mama herself.  Whoever it was, the syndicate wants Guido to find them and bring them to justice, because…nobody whacks a made man and gets away with it.”

Then on Feb. 4, Super Bowl For Beckett! is two hours of bowling (shoe rental included) at SpareZ Bowling Alley, 5325 South University Drive, Davie.
Check in at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door.

If you want more than memories, join the Indiegogo initiative, an online fund-raising campaign which will reward a contribution toward the $5,000 goal with signed postcards, complimentary tickets to opening night, autographed cast photos, a chance to be Director for a Day and, according to the news release, “our undying love.”

Donations will underwrite set construction, fees for set and lighting design, and actor salaries.

“Your contribution will allow us to do the theatre we are passionate about and reach our largest audience ever,” said Alliance ensemble member Mark Della Ventura.
