Close Your Eyes And Listen: War of the Worlds

Theater lovers trying to avoid the little monsters haunting the neighborhood on Halloween have an option.

AirPlayz, a company dedicated to the art of radio drama produced by 2Watts Productions will recreate Orson Welles’ famed fright night radio play The War of the Worlds at 2p.m. and 8 p.m. on October 31 at the Caldwell Theatre main stage.

With fewer visual explosions and CG spaceships than the Spielberg version, the play will be augmented by the sound effects used in radio studios of the 1930s.

Local actor Gordon McConnell, who has headed several radio plays, will direct a cast that will include Avi Hoffman, Dan Leonard and Laura Turnbull in multiple roles.

The script has also been tweaked to rename all the original locations from New Jersey to recognizable sites in Palm Beach County.

Admission is $10, and reservations can made by calling 561-632-0517 or send an email to airplayzartsradio@gmail.com.
