Caldwell Theatre Agrees To File Chapter 11 to Head Off Foreclosure and Receivership; Still Plans To Continue Season

Caldwell Theatre Company has decided to seek federal Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the wake of a bank seeking to foreclose on the property and have a receiver appointed to manage the business, the theater’s attorney confirmed Thursday.

Red Hot Lovers Sizzle At Broward Stage Door

Broward Stage Door Theatre has a knack for Neil Simon. Just when you thought there wasn’t much new to be done with yet another of Simon’s old chestnuts, the Coral Springs theater company presents a fresh production that’s entertaining from beginning to end. With its latest Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Stage Door loads one of Simon’s funniest plays with talent, which only makes the comedy soar higher.

Top Gun! The Musical in FTL Crashes and Burns

This production of Top Gun! The Musical at Empire Stage suffers from Shoulda Woulda Coulda Syndrome: It shoulda been cast with performers who could actually sing and act. It woulda had a shot at being a cult hit. And it coulda been a lot of fun, if it were only in more capable hands. But as it is, Top Gun! The Musical crashes and burns.

War Horse Will Close Newly-Announced 2012-2013 Season For Broadway Across America in Fort Lauderdale

War Horse, one of the most stunningly theatrical plays to overwhelm mainstream New York audiences last year will close out the six-show season on Broadway Across America’s slate for 2012-2013 in Fort Lauderdale. The Tony Award-winning play, that’s right a play, will join another play, Agatha Christie’s BBC Murders, in the theater series that has stuck for several years to an exclusive diet of musicals.

Briefs: 1-Minute Play Festival, Alice at the PlayGround, Pino Plays the Roxy, +Harry Warren, AAPACT, Park Vista

You’ve heard of one-act play programs and ten-minute play, but now comes The First South Florida One-Minute Play Festival.

More than 40 playwrights with South Florida connections have written (or are still writing) these very brief exercises in dramaturgy for two benefit performances slated for 4:30 and 8 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Deering Estate, 16701 SW 72nd Ave. in Miami.

Amadeus and Doubt Add Drama To Maltz’s Musicals In Tenth Anniversary Season 2012-13

New Theatre’s Chilly Winter Is Family Drama For All Seasons

Robert Caisley’s world premiere script for Winter at New Theatre could use some pruning and the two lead actors could use a bit more stage time to get comfortable with the punishing cascade of dialogue. But neither flaw cripples the three from creating an ultimately harrowing evening of drama under the direction of Ricky J. Martinez as we watch the already fractured family melt down completely.

Caldwell Considers Ch. 11 Bankruptcy Reorganization, But No Plans To Fold Or Affect Season

The board of directors at the Caldwell Theatre Company are considering seeking federal bankruptcy protection as one solution to persisting financial problems at South Florida’s longest running regional theater, but it has no expectations of folding or canceling its season, said Artistic Director Clive Cholerton.

Women’s Theatre Project Not Closing, But Postpones Rest of Season
