Someone Must Have Said, “Macbeth” Backstage
The opening of Broward Stage Door’s return engagement of the bittersweet comedy Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks was postponed last week when actress Phyllis Spear fell off the stage in dress rehearsal. The run in the Coral Springs theater has been rescheduled to reopen today (Friday, Nov. 16, and close Dec. 9. The production about a lonely widow whose life is revitalized by the titular lessons with a dance instructor played by Larry Buzzeo was produced at Stage Door’s Miami Beach facility at the Byron Carlyle Theatre last June. Once More, Dear Friends, Unto The Breach
Quick reminder: Christopher Demos Brown’s Our Lady of Allapattah will have a reading at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 20 at GableStage in the Biltmore Hotel at 1200 Anastasia Avenue in Coral Gables. It was originally slated for the day before.
The play focuses on two Miami police detectives assigned to investigate the image of the Virgin Mary that appears on the side of a bodega in a strip mall – a situation that may sound familiar to South Floridians. The linchpin of the case is Eddie Camaro, a brilliant but morally depraved slumlord owner turned cult leader.
The detectives’ different feelings about religion creates a tension between faith and friendship.
This production’s cast includes Todd Durkin, Chaz Mena, John Archie, and Betsy Graver. Stuart Meltzer, who is a member of Zoetic Stage along with Demos Brown, will direct.
