Even if you don’t think of yourself as a fan of the dance musical genre, this national tour of An American In Paris from Broadway Across America is the kind of don’t miss experience playing sadly for barely a week at the Arsht Center. Doubtless it will tour again and again, but you would be missing this dazzling troupe including Miami City Ballet alumnae Sara Esty and Coral Springs native Etai Benson.
Actor Etai Benson heaps praise on his South Florida roots in helping him to navigate his “role of a lifetime.” The Coral Springs native plays Adam Hochberg in An American In Paris, now on a national tour and coming to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts this week.
These are not at all necessarily what we predict will be the best shows this season (although they may be) or the best attended or the most popular or the most award-winning. We don’t care. These are the shows we most want to see for a variety of reasons. The list is woefully incomplete, likely with major but unintentional omissions.
But our recent visit to Broadway took in shows running nearly a full season or even longer – and they seem as vibrant as the reviews said they were on the day they opened: The King and I, An American In Paris and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.
