2021 Remy Awards Announced

The 2021 Remy Awards honoring those who provide outstanding service behind the scenes to the region’s theater community were announced this week by the South Florida Theatre League. The livestream of the award presentation  is slated for 7 p.m.  Monday September 27 with the video being available on demand afterwards.

Seeking A Path Through The Past In Redwood Curtain

Lanford Wilson’s wistful and whimsical play Redwood Curtain postulates that the past we stock our psyche with becomes something integral to our being that has to be faced down if we are to move beyond it. It gets a well-meaning outing from the fledgling Primal Forces Production. It’s an intriguing evening that starts the brain cogitating about the themes, but as theater it doesn’t land solidly.

Trot Out The Superlatives For Actors’ Playhouse’s Ragtime

As far as large-scale Broadway musicals, Ragtime stands as Actors’ finest mainstream work ever, as accessible and satisfying as it is passionate and thoughtful. Anyone who cares about musical theater, or theater in general, should make a special effort to see this production.

Palm Beach Theaters Dominate Carbonell Awards

Joy and uncertainty imbued the 36th annual Carbonell Awards on Monday night, reflecting a period marked by the greatest concentration of theatrical excellence in recent memory, yet also the closure of two companies and tenuous survival of others. The juxtaposition was no more evident than the Caldwell Theatre production, Stuff, earning three awards – four days after the company revealed it had hired a receiver and was postponing its last play of the season because of cash flow problems.
