All too apropos for our bitterly divided time, Outré Theatre Company’s intellectually stimulating production of Lucas Hnath’s The Christians asks what happens when two sincerely held but diametrically opposed viewpoints inescapably clash.

The prescient genius of George Orwell is the blinding virtue in Outré Theatre Company’s earnestly delivered but sluggish production of the painfully relevant 1984. It remains jaw-dropping that Orwell foresaw in 1949 a nightmare of social, political, emotional, intellectual and technological insanity whose resonances in 2017 are deafening.
Outré Theatre Company and Curtain Call Playhouse, two troupes that have played at many different venues, plus TheatreSouth, a fledgling African-American company, will have a new base of operations later this year: the Pompano Beach Cultural Center and Library slated to open this spring.
