Theatre Lab Hosts 24-Hour Project To Aid New Play Festival

The future of the 24-Hour Theatre Project – a popular fund-raiser that cemented the theater community’s solidarity – seemed endangered when its founders, the Amadeos, announced they would be leaving the state. Enter the Theatre Lab, which will present Project on May 1 with the Amadeos’ blessing.

Amadeos To Leave Florida; Plans Scrapped for New Naked Stage Venue

Antonio and Katherine Amadeo, who separately and together championed cutting edge work through their Naked Stage company and who helped unite the local artistic community with their 24-Hour Theatre Project, plan to leave the state. Their departure ends their plans to open a new venue in West Palm Beach focused on exciting younger audiences about theater as an entertainment option.

Looking Back At South Florida Theater’s 2015: Taking Chances Financially And Artistically

2015 produced a wild variety of snapshots to paste in the theatrical scrapbooks: a male Dolly Levi, a homicidal dimwit slicing carrots, a kidnapper forcing her captives to learn nonsense, a tsunami engulfing a Japanese village, a green-gunked survivor of toxic sludge singing love songs to his blind librarian girlfriend. Hoary, Dependable Mousetrap Springs Again At The Maltz

The Mousetrap at the Maltz is indeed a hoary old chestnut chock full of clichés which weren’t even new when it bowed in 1952. But director Peter Amster and his cast wisely don’t try to fight it or update it. Instead they embrace it with gusto and with hardly a post-modern wink other than playing up everyone’s suspicious facets with a gleeful melodramatic flair that is usually, but not always under control.

Breaking News: Naked Stage Bids To Build New Permanent Venue In West Palm Beach

The Naked Stage, the 8-year-old company that has won acclaim and awards despite a tiny budget and no permanent home, is planning to open a 145-seat theater in a former antiques shop on Clematis Street in West Palm Beach in 6 to 12 months.

The Carbonell Awards will bestow its highest honors this month: Arsht Executive Vice President and Carbonell President oScott Shiller will receive the George Abbott Award, actress-director-producer-dancer-union leader-teacher Iris Acker will receive the Howard Kleinberg Award, and The Naked Stage troupe which created The 24-Hour Theatre Project will receive the Ruth Foreman Award.
