Like the rest of the country, South Florida theater took tentative steps throughout 2013, banking on the promise of a recovering economy and a durable demand for art. Evidence was visible across the three counties: theaters mostly opening not closing, established companies moving into new venues, young companies finding audiences, runs extended, a continued commitment to riskier experiments .

For One Day, Delray Beach Becomes Bedford Falls For Arts Garage’s Radio Theater Series

Arts Garage staged It’s A Wonderful Life as part of its Radio Theatre series, which kicked off in August with the radio play adaptation of A Star Is Born. Eight actors, plus two sound effects “actors” performed the play for one day only — a shame really that such a worthwhile production only had a matinee and evening performance. But others are on the calendar.

The Gleefully Irreverent Romp The Book Of Mormon Opens This Week At Broward Center

Aggressively, gleefully and literally irreverent, with the most profane lyric about the Almighty ever heard in a Broadway musical, The Book of Mormon is the most improbable smash since a prequel to The Wizard of Oz premiered a decade ago. So it’s not odd that the national tour opening Tuesday at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts is one of the most popular tickets in the Broadway Across America season.
