The Joint At The Wick’s Ain’t Misbehavin’ Starts Jumpin’ After Intermission

Something remarkable happened opening night when the band played the entr’acte to the second half of the Wick Theatre’s Ain’t Misbehavin’. What had been a merely competent if unremarkable evening of entertainment suddenly transformed. The joint, finally, was jumpin’ and it stayed that way much of the second half.

Wick Takes A Chance With Mixed Bouquet Of Steel Magnolias

See Magnolias for all of the lovely elements the Wick’s production contains and its insightful direction by Mr. Joerder. Some of the thornier aspects should eventually get worked out and by no means are they a reason to dismiss a night of sweet Magnolias at the Wick.

Wick’s Full Monty Isn’t Half-Bad

The Full Monty is one of those scruffy street mongrels that are undeniably cute and even inexplicably winning for short periods, but not a stray you want to take home. The Wick Theatre’s production of the musical is competent, perhaps one of the better renditions you’ve seen of it, but its not equal to the recent triumph with 42nd Street.

Carbonell Nominations Honor New And Struggling Companies

The nominations for Carbonell Awards honoring theatrical excellence in South Florida released today provide some interesting material for observers to chew over. The nominations seem to depict a very healthy year for musicals and a less impressive number of new works produced, quality notwithstanding. The standout element was the large number of nominations honoring young and/or struggling companies.

Year In Review: Encouraging Signs As Theaters Bet On Recovering Economy

Like the rest of the country, South Florida theater took tentative steps throughout 2013, banking on the promise of a recovering economy and a durable demand for art. Countess de Hoernle Gives $250,000 To Wick Theatre

The newly-opened Wick Theatre received a $250,000 donation Thursday night from Henrietta, the Countess de Hoernle, echoing a gift that she gave the former occupant of the Boca Raton facility, the Caldwell Theatre Company.
