The University of Miami/Arsht Center production of Metamorphoses is akin to a daring young gymnast attempting a difficult advanced maneuver: admirably brave, visually arresting, but not quite landing as solidly on his feet as you’d hope.
An increasingly ambitious season has been announced for Theater Up Close’s 2013-2014 schedule, the initiative which teams the Adrienne Arsht Center with Zoetic Stage, the University of Miami theater program and the House Theatre of Chicago.

Theater Up Close, the series co-produced by the Arsht Center, has announced a 2012-2013 season partnering with the home-grown Zoetic Stage, the University of Miami’s theater department, the House Theatre of Chicago and, for the first time, the Alliance Theatre Lab of Miami Lakes.

After a half-century in show business, dancer-director-choreographer Tommy Tune knows the gamut of pre-Broadway tryouts. But the process for 54 Forever that opens tonight is new for him. He is directing the world premiere musical at the University of Miami’s Jerry Herman Ring Theatre, cast with students and financed by the theater department.
The University of Miami and the Arsht Center deliver a unique and mostly convincing rendition of this tale of parental oppression and carnal repression.
