Looking Back At South Florida Theater’s 2015: Taking Chances Financially And Artistically

2015 produced a wild variety of snapshots to paste in the theatrical scrapbooks: a male Dolly Levi, a homicidal dimwit slicing carrots, a kidnapper forcing her captives to learn nonsense, a tsunami engulfing a Japanese village, a green-gunked survivor of toxic sludge singing love songs to his blind librarian girlfriend. You know, just another year for regional theater in South Florida.

Mortality Is Funny As Well As Terrifying In Superb Absurdist Exit The King At Dramaworks

The word “hilarious” rarely applies to a bleak unblinking play about mortality, but Palm Beach Dramawork’s superb production of Eugene Ionesco’s Exit The King earns it, along with “profoundly thought-provoking” and other accolades. Simply, it ranks among the best work that the company has mounted in its 13 seasons.

Dramaworks’ A Delicate Balance Delivers Uncompromising Thought-Provoking Drama

A nameless terror has upended the fragile homeostasis in Agnes and Tobias’ carefully-ordered uppercrust existence, all the more frightening because its anonymity makes it uncomfortably universal for the audience at Palm Beach Dramaworks’ production of Edward Albee’s A Delicate Balance. What starts in this laudable production as a play about a troubled family of privilege, which keeps our attention simply because they are engagingly hyper-articulate, then ends as a shattering indictment of self-deception and hypocrisy in human interaction.
