Critics and award judges have been talking about it for weeks: The sheer amount of high quality work has made evaluating the last 12 months unusually challenging, but also an opportunity to remember one of the most rewarding calendar years in recent memory. Current Events Amp Audience Angst In Perfect Arrangement

When Topher Payne’s Perfect Arrangement bowed in 2013, the satirical indictment of homophobia, hypocrisy and a half-dozen other themes was a witty and insightful commentary. In the context of last week’s election, Island City Stage’s production is a terrifying reminder of the dangers of navigating a repressive culture through submissive accommodation.

Despite Snazzy Tech Design, Political Satire Angry Fags Wanders Off-Message

Immersive technology goes a long way in elevating Topher Payne’s Angry Fags at Island City Stage, but the play still suffers from elephantine pacing and a sense of crippling logorrhea. Yet there is a modicum of brilliance awaiting patient audiences.
